DMK MP Kanimozhi criticized the government for putting up signs only in Hindi in Railway Stations. She argued that signs in railway stations must be in regional languages in order for the local people to understand them. Kanimozhi quoted herself as an example and said that she did not understand Hindi but had seen signs in her village in Hindi without being translated into Tamil. She strongly questioned how the ruling party expected to reach the locals if it could not adapt to their language and if it continued to create a communication barrier. The language imposition debate has been ongoing ever since the framing of the Constitution.Hindi signs should not be an issue if they are accompanied with signs in local languages. However, the language imposition accusation has gone extreme in the South especially in Tamilnadu where there is a demand for complete Hindi removal.
