REAL REASON FOR 2007 KANDHAMAL RIOTS – JUDICIAL REPORT
Orissa has a strong anti-conversion law, however it was not implemented. 2007 saw the explosive Kandhamal riots where Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati was murdered by accused Christians propagating forcible conversion of tribals and hindus to Christianity. In these riots several religious places were burnt and many people were displaced. In the just released 560 page jjudicialreport, while local tribals and hindus are involved in these riots, the blame is placed on missionaries and local churches for propagating proselytizing and evangelical conversion agenda to Christianity. The tribals and hindus have been tolerating such conversion for a long time, but these riots were driven by matters reaching an explosive point.
