Sex Ratio increase in several states hints at the gradual acceptance of equality
The dismal levels of sex ratio in the country after the 2011 elections is showing a gradual change towards the positive. Haryana which had one of the lowest sex ratios with only 876 girls per 1000 boys has now risen to 929 per 1000. A similar increase in the numbers has been reflected in states like Nagaland and Uttarakhand. Despite nature having a tendency to produce female babies, female infanticide and foeticide in India have led to abysmal sex ratios. Discrimination against girl children is common and seeing a positive change in this domain gives a sense of hope and comfort.
