Uttarakhand bars candidates with more than 2 kids from contesting in panchayat polls
The Uttarakhand Assembly passed a legislation setting a term wherein potential candidates having more than 2 children will not be allowed to contest in the panchayat polls. This requirement is accompanied by certain minimum educational milestones. These conditions are an attempt to spread awareness about family planning and promote safe sex practices among the villages. The education aspect is also important as it generates a sensitivity towards the need for education and encourages people to complete a level of basic education.
