100 year old Mumbai building collapses, local authorities blamed
A 100 year old Mumbai building Kesarbai Building collapsed in Dongri trapping around 40 residents and killing 4 people. While residents have blamed the Brihanmumbai Mahanagarpalika for not permitting the repair of old buildings and for delaying clearance for repair funds, the BMC defended itself by saying that an order to evacuate the building was issued in 2017. The BMC said that the part of the building that collapsed was an illegal construction that was done years after the original construction. The residents said that Aloo Paroo Trust which owned the building did not accept the terms for redevelopment put forth by the residents. Rescue operations are underway and green corridors have been created to facilitate the same.
