DELHI CHURCH AID FOR KERALA TEMPLE TRAGEDY – IS CONVERSION THE MOTIVATION?
There are news reports that a Delhi based Believer’s Church, a Christian denomination with congregations and parishes worldwide, is collecting medicines, food packets and clothing to provide aid and relief for victims of the Kerala temple tragedy in Kollam. It certainly provides for good public relations. But… an emerging question is if the real motivation is something else – which is supplying such aid as inducements to victims in tragic circumstances to convert them to Christianity? Numerous independent studies have documented that large amounts of funds collected by Christian organisations is used for conversion. These acts include “soul harvesting” or “church planting” are to offset the declines in western countries. As we focus on things such as “Make in India”, why are the sufferings of a tribal man or villager in Kerala a concern of people in UK, USA, Germany or Denmark? Is it really Conversions when people are at their weakest and desperate?
