Sonam Wangchuk, the self-styled climate activist from Ladakh, is currently on an indefinite hunger strike in Delhi, backed by a small group of around 200 supporters at Jantar Mantar. His core demand? The resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged exam paper leaks and related student issues. This is not a principled protest. It is classic habitual blackmail, using the dramatic spectacle of a fast unto death to hold the elected government hostage and extract political concessions.

Let us be brutally clear about the numbers that expose the absurdity of this spectacle.

Dharmendra Pradhan is not some random bureaucrat. He is a sitting Member of Parliament who secured nearly 6 lakh votes from the people of Sambalpur in Odisha. He was appointed Education Minister by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who leads a government backed by the mandate of approximately 30 crore voters in the 2024 general elections. The very leader (and the larger political ecosystem) is credited with delivering three crucial states,  Odisha, Haryana, and Bihar,  to the ruling dispensation. These three states alone represent a combined population of over 20 crore Indians.
