“Ravana Is Not All Bad”: Sai Pallavi’s Ravana Remark Puts ‘Ramayana’ In The Spotlight
Speaking on the red carpet at the global premiere of Nitesh Tiwari’s “Ramayana” on October 27, Sai Pallavi, who plays Sita, framed the epic as a mirror for believers. “As scripture, if you are a believer, you will see and try to introspect what is the good and bad that exists in you, because Ravana is not all bad,” she said. “It is important that we spot Ravana in us, and we make changes over time.”
The idea that Ravana is a figure of mixed qualities is not new. The film’s own makers have leaned the same way. Tiwari told Collider that the film will show both Ravana’s admirable qualities and his eventual downfall. Pallavi’s comment, in that light, echoes the film’s stated approach as much as it departs from devotional orthodoxy.
