YAKUB MEMON – WHY THIS SELECTIVE OUTRAGE
Apparently, Yakub Memon is a martyr to the secular sophists who allege he was “murdered” by a communal government. But for the families and maimed survivors of the bombings, the executed man is a symbol. For Vinayak, whose 19-year-old sister Shashikala and 11-year-old brother Vasant were SHREDDED APART BY BOMBS while on their way to school, there will be no closure. There would be none for Ramesh, a shop owner whose brother was killed; or blast survivor Kirti, who has spent a fortune on treatment so far and says, “The sea of red haunts me even today.” Tushar, who owns a small restaurant, hasn’t got over his mother’s death in the bomb blasts—when he went to recover her body, it had been mangled so badly that hardly anything was left over for cremation. For the grieving survivors, closure is not the issue. Vengeance is.
