SC directs that temples should be managed by devotees

The Supreme Court has said that temples should be managed by the devotees and not the government because of the numerous complaints it has received against the mismanagement by various state governments. In a secular country like India, religious institutions must be separate from the state however it is incongruous that in various parts of the country temples are managed by state entities that do not even belong to the same religion.
