Andhra Pradesh to replace PDS with direct consumer delivery

The Public Distribution System through which consumers purchase monthly rations has often come under the scanner for being inefficient and black marketing. The Andhra Pradesh government has thought of a novel solution to this problem wherein supplies will directly be delivered to the consumers when they place orders for it. This is convenient for the consumers as they can avoid the long waiting time in Fair Price Shops. The initial experiment is being conducted with packaged rice, sugar and red gram. The absence of middlemen in the PDS will reduce corruption and sale of commodities at higher prices.
