Brahmaputra Flood Situation dismal in Assam
The Brahmaputra river in Assam which has been overflowing and causing flash floods has affected the lives of 2 lakh people living around it. The flood situation is worsening because of heavy rainfall leading to an increase in the water level in the river. The Brahmaputra and its tributaries are flowing above the danger mark in several districts. While Assam, Uttarakhand and Mumbai are facing floods, Chennai is grappling with a severe water crisis with water being sold at exorbitant prices. The north east is one of the most pristine areas of the country. It is saddening that human activities of mining and excavation have caused the river course to change leading to landslides and floods.
