Congress Candidate’s campaign video attracts flak for sexist remarks
K Sudhakaran, Congress candidate from Kannur received flak due to a short campaign video that was posted on Facebook and carried sexist undertones. The video shows a man who regrets educating his daughter and wishes he had educated his son instead. The message conveyed is that priority should be given to the education of the male child. The metaphor of education is used to say that it is pointless to send a woman candidate to the parliament. The video was seen as a direct attack at Sudhakaran’s main competitor, PK Sreemathy. The sexist advertisement did not prove to put down Sudhakaran’s competitor but attracted negative reactions to his own candidature.
