Dropping Deendayal Upadhyay’s name from school test in R’sthan triggers controversy
The Ashok Gehlot led government in Rajasthan recently contemplated removing the name of RSS idealogue Deendayal Upadhyay’s name from the state scholarship exam for students in Class 10 and 12. The State Education Minister GS Dotasra justified the move by saying that no justification was given in the first place for naming the test after Upadhyay by the BJP. He also said that he did not receive a satisfactory explanation for the name change from the Board of Secondary Education. The BJP reacted to this by saying that the Congress was afraid of Upadhyay. Dotasra, later said that the name would be retained and there would be no change and the initial intention was to remove the name for easy identification. The name of the exam does not matter to the students as long as the government and education boards take efforts to genuinely provide the scholarships for the deserving students.
