False Info about Cdr Abhinandan Varthaman makes rounds on social media
A Facebook post spread the rumour about Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman being taken out of service by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on the same day that his father joined the Congress party. The information was verified to be false as Abhinandan is on a four week medical leave and is still serving the IAF. It is not confirmed if his father, Retired Air Marshal Simhakutty Varthaman has joined the Congress as there is no official report of the same. Despite the presence of norms and devices to filter fake news on social media, rumours and misleading information are still circulated widely.
