Gauhati High Court Charges Penalty For Damages In Bandhs, Assam
Assam has been often suffering for Bandhs and several damages caused due to the bandhs in the rural and urban parts of Assam. Strikes and Bandh are ordered by Gauhati High Court to be handled strictly by the State Police.
A bench headed by Ujjal Bhuyan has ordered to charge and prosecute the initiator of bandhs and strikes in the state.
Charge sheet of the blockade leaders is compulsory along with FIR if the blockades and bandhs are more than 24 hours. According to the act of IPC, the National Highways Act, 1956, and the Railways Act, 1989 the charge sheet should be made by the police.
Bandh leads to obstacles and economic losses to the state including snatching the bread and butter from the regular wage earners. So, the Court also ordered the state to provide amount of damages so that it can be recovered.
