Karnataka: Governor Gehlot Refuses To Reconsider Presidential Referral Of Muslim Quota Bill In Public Procurement

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has refused to reconsider reserving the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (Amendment) Bill, 2025, for the President’s consideration. The bill propose a four per cent reservation for Muslims in government contracts. Gehlot cited Supreme Court observations prohibiting reservations based on religion, emphasising socio-economic factors as the basis for affirmative action.
