WHY ARE INDIAN CHURCH LEADERS BEING ALARMIST?
As we know Indian and Indians are the most peace loving and welcoming people – one could argue this generosity has got them in trouble. The Archbishop of Goa Filipe Neri Ferrao called for better understanding, reconciliation and peace as enshrined in the message of Christmas. He said, “Sadly, we find an increasing dose of intolerance holding sway in our lives. Not only people of different creeds and cultures, but people of the same family drift away from each other because of this intolerance and unforgivingness.” What is the need for such statements when nothing has changed on the ground but a but the government at the center (and maybe a greater imagination of fear)? Are these politically motivated statements?
