India’s Moonwalk May Bury A Dangerous Gandhian Idea

In the wake of the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission, a great deal of interest has been generated in the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It has faced an acute financial crunch right from the beginning, and yet its achievements are admirable. There have been massive media coverage and a zillion congratulatory notes, but a crucial question has not been answered, or even raised: why did ISRO have to suffer frugality in the first place?
