9 private sector professionals appointed as joint secretaries in govt departments

Central government departments have appointed nine private sector specialists as joint secretaries for the first time. The post of joint secretary is usually held by public service officers. This initiative was taken with the view that it is likely to boost government performance as it brings in a different perspective, that of the private sector.
