AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s initiative to make metro rides free for women was rejected by the Centre. Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs headed by Hardeep Singh Puri  said that it was against the idea and asked the AAP to instead devise a better plan for ensuring the safety of women. It is constantly being questioned how free rides are empowering to women or how it improves their safety. Several women organisations have also said that the plan seems to be putting women down by suggesting that they are not capable of paying for their tickets. Arvind Kejriwal, however, said that he was determined to implement his idea and that he would not give up.
