BJP gains control over Darjeeling’s Municipal Body as 17 councillors switch
17 Councillors belonging to the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha joined the BJP thereby giving BJP control over the Municipal Body of Darjeeling. 17 out of 30 Councillors made the switch to BJP. The BJP’s entry into Bengal has been remarkable given the hold that Mamata Banerjee’s TMC and the CPI(M) had over the state for several decades after independence. BJP’s Bengal leader Mukul Roy expressed his sense of joy over the next victory for BJP in the state. Politicians from various parties have been crossing over to the BJP. Bengal witnessed a huge shift when several TMC workers crossed over to the BJP last month soon after the poll results.
