India has witnessed several agitations some of which have turned violent in order to include several communities to the Scheduled Caste List in the Constitution. Tamilnadu however, witnessed a surprising turn of events where six communities are fighting to be delisted from Scheduled Castes. While communities demand inclusion due to the reservation in government jobs and educational institutions, these six castes including Pallars, Kudumbar, Devendrakulathar, Pannadi, Mooppar and Kaladi have said that they are being socially oppressed because of the inclusion. The leaders of the communities have said that because they are recognised as scheduled castes, even in a progressing society they are subject to marginalisation and untouchability.
