Facebook has become the most popular social media site for political campaigns and advertisements. The total expenditure by political parties and support groups on political advertisements on Facebook since February is 8.38 crores. The bulk of the spending is traced to have been made by BJP. Facebook’s Political Ads Policy mandates the publisher of the advertisement to mention the name of the advertiser which makes way to trace the expenditure made by different parties. An increase in the number of advertisements has been recorded as the elections are a few days away. Concerns regarding pages advertising freebies in exchange for votes have been raised.
