Government extends support to farmers by increasing MSP
The Minimum Support Price is the price at which the government purchases agricultural output from farmers. The MSP has been increased for staple crops such as rice and millets. The MSP for paddy has gone up by 3.7% which indicates that farmers will be earning 85 rupees more per quintal. A similar increase (4-6% bracket) in the prices of other summer crops has been announced. In the midst of farmer despair and suicide cases due to debt, a rise in the MSP though small will be some relief.
