The HRD Ministry issued an order asking institutions to link students social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and this was received with skepticism by students and teachers. They fear that their political views will be tracked and thereby they will be attacked for differing from the present government. The HRD Ministry is currently planning to set up social media cells to coordinate the social media activity of all higher educational institutions with the HRD Ministry. Reacting to skepticism, the HRD Ministry said that the intention was not political but it was to provide a dynamic platform for the exchange of opinions and ideas. This has still not convinced students and the faculty who felt that the linking would feel restrictive. To ease the outcry, the government has said that the move will not be made compulsory.
