The Indian Railways has been working on several policy changes and improvements to its services. One major move will be to introduce voluntary subsidy surrender under the ‘Give It Up’ campaign similar to the one that was conducted with LPG Cylinders. However, unlike the LPG system where a cylinder was given to a poor household for every subsidy surrender, a seat will not be given to someone else based on one giving up their subsidy. The money collected will be invested in providing a better rail system with modern facilities. Another commendable move included the replacement of power generation cars in several trains that are switching to green fuel in order to ferry 4 lakh more passengers everyday. Railways are an affordable mode of transport and any form of development is difficult to achieve given the population and quantity of trains. The efforts are therefore highly appreciable.
