Ishrat Jahan receives death threats for reciting Hanuman Chalisa
Ishrat Jahan, a petitioner in the triple talaq case has been facing death threats after she participated in a Hanuman Chalisa recitataion event. She claimed that her brother in law and landlord ordered her to vacate her home in Kolkata or else they would kill her. Ishrat Jahan attendted the recital organized by the BJP in her neighbourhood wearing a hijab. She had joined the BJP last year. She strongly asserted her belief in secularism and said that members of all religions should be allowed to appreciate and partcipate in each others culture. Reacting to the outcry on Twitter, writer Taslima Nasreen posted the following, “Ishrat Jahan should remove her hijab and go wherever she wants to go. She is not insulting hijab, hijab is insulting her”
