Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind issues fatwa against PM Modi’s Sukanya Samrddhi Yojna, declares it Unislamic

A section of Islamic jurists (muftis) have passed a resolution saying the government’s Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna (SSY) is “illegal” under Sharia as interest is accrued as part of the scheme. According to Ajimullah Siddiqui, media in-charge Jamiyat Ulema-e-Hind (JUH), the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana has an interest element which is ‘un-Islamic’ as per Sharia and hence the yojana is also considered un-Islamic.
