Jammu And Kashmir Is Now A Union Territory Ruled By Central Government

Beginning of Union territory in 1949, Andaman and Nicobar was the only state but later other six states were added in the union territory. The main aim of UN territories are to protect the rights of the state and its people.

In recent scraping of article 370 and article 35A on 5th August 2019, government of India has bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh into Union territory of India as passed in the Rajya Sabha Bill. The UN territories with its legislation are J&K, Puducherry and National Capital.
