Karnataka High Court Quashes FIRs Against Doctor Who Flagged Suspected Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants
The Karnataka High Court has quashed two FIRs registered against Dr T. Nagendrappa, who alerted the police to the presence of Bangladeshi nationals suspected of residing illegally in Bengaluru. In a significant directive, Justice M. Nagaprasanna ordered the Karnataka government to establish district-level committees to address illegal migration within three months and submit a compliance report to the court.
As per the Organiser reports, the ruling came while the Karnataka High Court was hearing petitions filed by Nagendrappa challenging criminal proceedings initiated against him at the Bellandur and Varthur police stations. The doctor had also questioned the legality of his arrest, alleging that the police had failed to comply with mandatory procedural safeguards and unlawfully curtailed his personal liberty. By quashing both FIRs, the court granted him relief from the criminal cases while issuing directions aimed at strengthening the state’s institutional response to illegal migration.
