Kathua victim’s father demands escalation of punishment
The Punjab and Haryana High Court heard the plea of the Kathua rape victim’s father who said that the rapists must be awarded a death sentence. The intensity and extent of the crime is extreme and he argued that the punishment given to the offenders was menial. The judgement was passed last month where 3 convicts were given life imprisonment and 3 were given a jail term of 5 years. The family of the victim is still fighting for justice. The loss of their child who had to undergo unimaginable suffering and trauma cannot be equated to a jail term.
