“Manufactured anger on streets?” What’s the intent behind ‘Cockroach’ rallies happening across Bharat
Hundreds of youths gathered in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai on May 24 for a controversial “Cockroach Rally” organized against unemployment, alleged inflation and remarks allegedly made by Supreme Court judge Justice Surya Kant. Carrying placards reading “We Want Work, We Want Life, We Want Respect” and “Rally of the Unemployed Cockroaches”, protesters marched from the Gandhi Museum premises to the Tamil Annai statue at Thamukkam Grounds.
The rally, organized by left-linked student outfits such as the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), also saw visible support from followers of the rapidly growing “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP).
