A panel discussion on Thursday came to a conclusion that the code of ethics that has been in place to regulate the content on social media for the upcoming elections needs improvement and lacks transparency. The Media Certification and Monitoring Committee has set up a panel to overlook political activity such as advertisements on newspapers and social media to ensure that there is no violation of the moral code. The 20 members of the panel are to go through political content on newspapers, electronic and social media till the end of the elections. Permission has to be obtained by cable operators and newspapers before publishing political content. Despite there being a code for social media, it is relatively easier to post content intended for political gain due to the innumerable websites and pages available on the internet.
