Nirmala Sitharaman’s women-centric budget speech receives praise
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was praised for her emphasis on women empowerment in her first Budget speech. While the Budget was criticised by several from the opposition such as Mayawati, Sitharaman’s strong emphasis on the growth of women leading to the growth of the economy was well received. She stressed the important role played by women in the rural areas which has contributed to the development of the rural economy. Through her slogan ‘Nari tu Narayani’ she appealed for greater women participation in governmental processes.
