NREGA Wages fall below ‘minimum’

The wages paid under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) scheme has fallen below the ‘minimum’ wage in 35 states and union territories of the country. In many states the minimum wage rate fixed by the state governments is higher than the NREGA wage despite the recent hike. The primary goal of the scheme to provide basic financial stability is under the mist.
