Raghuram Rajan terms NYAY doable, says he has advised Rahul Gandhi
Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan said that the NYAY scheme that the Congress introduced in its campaign was doable and was something worth thinking about. Raghuram Rajan said that the NYAY involved cash transfers to those belonging to the lower economic strata and said it was similar to BJP’s cash transfers to small farmers. Rajan said that cash transfers were the way to alleviate poverty in the country. Raghuram Rajan had spoken to Rahul Gandhi along with Manmohan Singh and P Chidambaram offering his advise and guidance on the scheme. The NYAY faced tremendous criticism when the idea was first introduced where many senior leaders and experts felt it was not practical and feasible.
