Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments Ltd (REIL) has stopped playing the National anthem and song at the Jaipur Municipal Corporation because it has not received payments worth Rs 21 Lakh for its services. This led to a tiff between the current city mayor Vishnu Lata and the previous mayor Ashok Lahoti. Lahoti was the one who began the practice of playing the National Anthem and song twice a day at the JMC headquarters. He is a member of the BJP currently and he questioned Lata as to why the practice had been discontinued. Initially what seemed to be a Congress-BJP scuffle, turned out to be an issue of delayed payment. The REIL stopped its services on its own account and has said that it will resume only after the dues are cleared.
