The time for monsoon being here with scant rainfall, rituals are being performed in several parts of the county to invoke rain. India’s deeply rooted superstitions are starkly visible are people are desperate for rain. Recently in Maharashtra, the wedding of two dolls was arranged in Wardha and this was done in the hope of receiving rain. Several areas of Maharashtra are experiencing a drought like situation. The members of the AIADMK party also went to the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, Tamilnadu to perform a puja for rain. As much as these rituals bring hope to people, they do not have any effect on climate change. It is time for people to realise the consequences of their actions rather than following mindless rituals.
