Sumitra Mahajan likely to be succeeded by Om Birla as Speaker
After Sumitra Mahajan’s decision to not contest in the Lok Sabha Election 2019, the NDA has decided to nominate Om Birla for the post of the Lok Sabha Speaker. Om Birla who is a BJP MP from Rajasthan met the party’s working president JP Nadda and later he also met Sumitra Mahajan. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that 10 parties had officially indicated their support for the candidate. He added that though the Congress had not signed yet, it was not likely to oppose the nomination. Om Birla’s wife Amrita Birla expressed her gratitude for the nomination of her husband.
