Tharoor’s tweet creates controversy
Shashi Tharoor’s tweet following a visit to a fish market in Kerala attracted criticism from the CPM and BJP. The opposition claimed that the post was demeaning to the fishermen community who had been saviours during the Kerala floods. Mr Tharoor recently visited the fish market in the Thiruvanathapuram Lok Sabha Constituency and posted pictures after interacting with the fisherwomen. He described himself as a ‘squeamish vegetarian’ in his tweet which attracted flak. He later also posted a tweet carrying the Malayalam translation of the word ‘squeamish’ saying that it was for those politicians who did not understand his English. Tharoor had earlier recommended the fishermen of Kerala for the Nobel Peace Prize and he is currently being targeted for defaming the community.
