The Triple Talaq Bill has finally been passed in Rajya Sabha with 99 votes in its favour. The Bill criminalises the oral pronouncement of instant triple talaq. Men who give their wives instant triple talaq are now liable to a three-year punishment. The Bill has braved criticism and many have said it targets the minority and it’s not beneficial to all women. Despite this, Muslim women feel secure that they cannot be abandoned at any given instance by their husbands. Divorces have to be obtained legally. After the Triple Talaq Bill, many Hindu women are demanding rights when their husbands leave them estranged.
