When Protest Becomes Offensive: Dangerous Normalization of Vulgarity
Freedom of speech is one of democracy’s greatest strength. But neither right grants a license to descend into abuse, vulgarity and offensive personal attacks. The recent events at Jantar Mantar have reignited an uncomfortable question: When did political protest become synonymous with verbal abuse? Videos circulating from the demonstration showed protesters using expletives not only against PM but also dragging his late mother.
Is this even acceptable? What are parents and schools teaching?
