The priests of the Yamunotri Temple in Uttarakhand have covered donation boxes with clothes in order to indicate their dissatisfaction and protest over the meagre salary that they are paid. The devotees who visit the temple generously offer donations in the boxes. However, the priests are not entitled to receiving a part of that donation neither have they been remunerated for their services. The Administrative Officer Anurag Arya has said that he has been keeping a close watch on the priest’s actions and that he would file an FIR against them. It is ironic that religious institutions that receive huge amounts of money from devotees refuse to pay those play a key role in the institution.
