Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the ‘Anti-Romeo Squads’ introduced by his government were for people like Azam Khan. The squads involved police dressed in civilian clothes who patrol public spaces to reduce sexual harassment and eve teasing of women. Yogi Adityanath’s statement is in connection with Azam Khan’s derogatory comment against Jayaprada which led to the EC banning Khan’s campaign for 72 hours. The Anti-Romeo squads have however faced criticism due to the extreme moral policing which restricts the freedom of women.
