NRIs in India

Before India’s reforms started, NRIs (or non-resident Indians) were considered royalty. They wore better clothes, drove good cards, ate better chocolates, had better gadgets and had great confidence. They wore probably everyday jeans which we all thought were fancy and brand name wristwatches and the list goes on. And when they landed past midnight, people were waiting for them. Indians were all in awe of them and in the marriage market they were in really high demand.  But today, after reforms, young Indian graduates have the latest laptops, smartphones, games and apps, jeans, handbags, cosmetics and on top of most consumer trends, and are as royal if not more than the NRIs, who one might say feel quite ordinary!
