The C-60 Commando unit of the CRPF force along with local police gunned down officially 16 but could be as high as 27 Naxalites or Maoist in the Gadchiroli region of Maharashtra – this would be one of the biggest successes for them. and also dealing a major blow to the naxalites. Maoist menace has been going for years in many districts. CRPF soldiers – both men and women have paid a very heavy price losing hundreds of its soldiers and many injured along with deaths of many local villagers. The CRPF has slowly but steady been achieving successes as the number of districts affected by naxalite violence has been steadily coming down, and now it is around 44 down from over 150.

It is only the end of March, and Summer is yet to officially begin, but temperatures are already hitting record levels. Temperatures in parts of Raigarh district in Maharashtra came close to 46 degree Celsius a record. In large parts of UP, the temperatures have exceed 40 degree Celsius and higher in other parts of the country. These high temperatures are also being accompanied by one of the worst drought conditions in so many areas. All are praying of the rain gods!

Political commentators thoughts demonetization would backfire on the ruling party. Instead during the recent local and panchayat level elections in Maharashtra and Gujarat, BJP made a clean sweep in both states in a big way. There were always many issues, drought, regional and community agitations such as Marathwada and Patildars. The big recent programme and potential public issue was the demonetization. Opposition parties are leading agitations, bandhs and stalling parliament. But at the ground level voters have spoken in a big and convincingly way about how they see it. So would the opposition listen and respect the verdict?

Maharashtra’s famous temple town Pandharpur will soon have the world’s largest toilet facilities. Eight mega toilet facilities with nearly 1,500 toilets will be constructed. This is to prepare for both the annual pilgrimage of lakhs who seek the blessings of Lord Vitthal, the presiding deity of the state, as well as the regular pilgrims who visit.

13th century built Hindu temple in the era of Peshawas have resurfaced in the Chandori (Nashik) area of the Godavari river basin in Maharashtra. These temples were seen was in 1982, 34 years ago, when an earlier drought hit this region. Sadly, these temples have been submerged after the Nandur Madhyameshwar dam was built in 1907. Each temple has a Shiva linga, and the entire riverbed contains Shiva lingas and idols of various deities.

The first-of-its-kind CM’s Internship Programme, Maharashtra government has selected 40 youth for its unique Chief Minister Internship programme for 2015. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the programme in state secretariat today. The graduates from any discipline who have secured first class, all aged under 25 years, will join CMO for a period of 11 months on a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000. Similar to Company internships, this is a win-win for the students who get rich experience in how the government runs, as well the state in the getting smart ideas from the students.
