Just like in past years, Mamata Banerjee was playing favourites by giving preference to Muslims over Hindus, even though the latter are in greater majority. As Durga Puja and Muharram falls on same days, she ordered that Durga Puja celebrations and idol immersions should be concluded 1 day before the Muharram procession.
This is despite the fact that the most auspicious day & time for immersion was to be the next day (to coincide with the Muharram day).
Hindus were naturally upset and approached the court. On really similar lines as in last year, the court struck down the Bengal government’s arbitrary decision and one that hurt Hindu sentiments. How stupid and how unfair…

Priests had protested beef eating supporter Mamata Banerjee entry into the Shri Jagannath Temple one of the sacred most places or “char dhams”. Hindus know and respect that a temple is only a place of worship and should never be used for political activities or for making political statements. But Mamata broke all the rules by making political statements about her political opponents from the inner section of the temple, per priests or members of the community. Now some devotees want the temple be purified and cleansed since it has been defiled by Mamata angry and abusive statements.

In a direct attack on press freedoms and to threaten journalists, Mamata Banerjee Bengal government has filed FIR with non-bailable offence against reporters of ZEE news who were covering the December 13 riots in the Dhulagarh area of Bengal reportedly instigated by muslims argually from outside of that area. There was a method to this censorship as a team of MPs and MLAs was not allowed to enter this area. These actions seems to have intentionally gone unnoticed by a large section of the media and eminent media persons as part of their ‘selective outrage policy‘.

Per reports, Mamata Banerjee has made the communal situation worse by her blatant minority appeasement. By her slience, she has embolded the the minority community to go on the attack at many places across the state. Communal riots happen at regular frequency and hardly any are reported. Mamata placed strict rules on Durga Puja celebrations while hardly any on the minority community, she did not allow permission for community events when only a few members of the minority community protested The Kolkata High court came down hard on her when it said, “the state government seems to pamper and appease the minority section of the public at the cost of the majority section without there being any plausible justification. The state government has been irresponsibly brazen in its conduct of being partial to one community, thereby infringing on the fundamental rights of people worshipping Ma Durga.” Some say that Kolkata is emerging as the hub of hard line Muslim activism. There were massive protests about banned preacher Zakir Naik, stipends for Imams and uniform civil code. It may time to remove Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and impose President’s rule.

Bengal is seeing rising acid attacks – and all of these are directed at women by men. Ms. Roopa Ganguly, Rajya Sabha member from Bengal says. The attacks and victims are growing each year and the vast majority (but not all) are from one community. Victims include widow, a mother and her two children, a deaf woman and on and on. What are the reasons: women spurned the man’s proposal and he was angry; a woman and home maker declined an indecent proposal of four youths, and they hurled acid, and such things go on. Police says they feel helpless. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, is busy protesting all over the country and has no time to address acute problems in the state. There is a law that dealers are also supposed to submit details of sale to the local police within three days of the transaction. But doubt such things are enforced? Bangladesh awards death penalty for acid attacks. Time has come for such drastic action – we should remember the victims (all women) lives are disfigured permanently.

While this case is to be heard by the Supreme Court, the Allahabad high court, one of the premier high court for legal opinion came down heavily on the practice of triple talaq – calling it that this form of instant divorce is cruel and most demeaning which impedes and drags India from becoming a nation. The court noted that divorce is permissible in Islam only in case of extreme emergency. So why are the “Secular parties” who get a major portion of their support from the minority communities against banning triple talaq. These parties include the Congress (led by Sonia Gandhi), Samajwadi party, Mayawati and her BSP, Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress, the left front parties all for continuing for practices that treat women badly and in favour of triple talaq which gives all the power to divorce to men only in the Muslim community.

Recently, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed to have created 68 lakh youth jobs in the last four years. The state has a population of around 900 lakhs. This claim feels very high compared to the West Bengal total population – and mind you this is the jobs created for only youth. If so, then arguably West Bengal would be one of the most economically progressive states in the country. Is it? Also, how many jobs have been lost during these four years. So this claim is raising a lot of questions.

West Bengal govt has banned BJP MPs and MLAs from visiting or holding rallies in the Bengal’s Malda district – they were on a fact finding mission about the recent estimated lakh or more Muslims who went on massive riots in the Kaliachak area of Malda, burning a police station, tens of govt and BSF vehicles and Hindu homes and shops. Per reports, this riot had backing of all three communal parties – the TMC, CPM, the Congress at the grassroots level. So far they have ONLY 11 arrests have been made and that too of the fringe protesters, but not the leaders. And, more importantly, people feel that Mamata Banerjee, TMC and West Bengal govt has not done anything to either provide security or restore the confidence of the shocked and shaken Hindu community both in this district and statewide.

Sonia Gandhi’s Congress which has been accused of corruption and Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamul Congress (TMC) may team up per rumors. Already, they seem to be providing moral support to each other. So is this an alliance of the corrupt and out of convenience or anything more? Let us wait and watch.

Roopa Ganguly, who played Draupadi in the blockbuster television series Mahabharata in the late 1980s is the new face of BJP in Bengal, and serves as a strong rival to the Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee.
