In remarkable candid comments, the chairman of the UP Shia Waqf board has said that Muslims who oppose the Ram Janmabhoomi temple should go to Pakistan or Bangladesh or join ISIS, and fundamentalist clerics are trying to destroy the country and they should migrate to Pak. And secular Muslims have never been against building the temple in Ayodhya as it is a sacred place for Hindus. In the past, the chief had even suggested that children studying in madrassas turn to terrorism, and state and central governments should consider banning all madrassas and initiate inquiries into them. Certainly some fresh and courageous remarks to think about…

First time pregnant actress 38 year old Soha Ali Khan, at least part-Muslim, wore a traditional Bengali Sari and sported a Bindu like a elegant Bengali woman. And for this she was heavily criticized – allegedly by other Muslims who felt she was not in observant of Eid. It is not clear if there is a dress code for Eid and who has the right to establish this for others. Did we also forget that the Indian constitution gives everyone certain non-negotiable freedoms?

Sonu Nigam is NOT against Azaan. He is only questioning the loudspeakers used for early morning Azaan. His tweet says “God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the Azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India.” Can we all be less worked up and emotional and focus only on the issue of whether loudspeakers should be employed each morning to awaken the general population? It is possible these issues have not been raised before. In several western countries one does not hear Azaan from loudspeakers due to restrictions on loud noises. Is there a lesson for India to follow?

Muslims and so called “secular” and marxists talk of secularism only in the places and countries where they are in a minority. How can secularism be good only in India, or US or western countries, but not places such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Arabia or Pakistan, Bangladesh or others? Outside India, and possibly Indonesia and Turkey, no Islamist country offers freedom of faith or secularism. Should muslims of these countries and even in India speak strongly in its favor?

The former President was true Indian Muslim, rooted in his Bharatiya culture and faithful to his Islamic beliefs. This was unpalatable to those pushing an exclusive Muslim identity that undermines Indian heritage. This is now being rubbed in by the Muslim League and other organisations like the one led by Hyderabad-based Owaisi brothers. They urge Muslims to shed any symbolism of Bharatiya ‘contamination’ — such as the lighting of lamps, Hindustani music, and Kathak. Because Abdul Kalam was a true Indian while remaining loyal to his Muslim traditions, these outfits never acknowledged him as a Muslim worthy of being followed.

A few unfortunate things said about President Kalam: Ramachandra Guha, supposed a well-known author said n 2012: “Ramchandra Guha, historian and author, feels that the people have got wrong in voting for Kalam as he will be forgotten in 10 years. He is not an original scientist, he will be forgotten in 10 years,” said Guha on CNN IBN. Regarding Kalam’s vision for India, Guha said, “His vision for India is totally confused. Its incoherent and inconsistent. “Kalam benefited from being the good Muslim at a time when Dawood Ibrahim was the bad Muslim,” he added. On Late Praful Bidwai called him a “Glorified Mechanic”!
