In the upcoming US Senate elections (like Rajya Sabha – there are only 100 total seats, 2 per state), upstart and challenger Shiva Ayyadurai- of Indian origin without any doubt and the real Indian is fighting against incumbent senator Elizabeth Warren. Ms. Warren has claimed to be of American Indian decent and many are questioning this. Mr. Ayyadurai’s fighting moto is “Only a REAL INDIAN Can Defeat the Fake Indian.” Mr. Ayyadurai as has President Trump called Ms. Warren and reportedly many other American Indians have called her the fake Indian and an opportunist to exploit special benefits given to American Indians (like SC/ST get in India).
While Indians don’t know either candidate, most would support Shiva the real Indian. Could we have imagined that being an Indian would be used to win a very difficult election in USA or any other country?

Bengal is seeing rising acid attacks – and all of these are directed at women by men. Ms. Roopa Ganguly, Rajya Sabha member from Bengal says. The attacks and victims are growing each year and the vast majority (but not all) are from one community. Victims include widow, a mother and her two children, a deaf woman and on and on. What are the reasons: women spurned the man’s proposal and he was angry; a woman and home maker declined an indecent proposal of four youths, and they hurled acid, and such things go on. Police says they feel helpless. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, is busy protesting all over the country and has no time to address acute problems in the state. There is a law that dealers are also supposed to submit details of sale to the local police within three days of the transaction. But doubt such things are enforced? Bangladesh awards death penalty for acid attacks. Time has come for such drastic action – we should remember the victims (all women) lives are disfigured permanently.

Jayalalitha symbolized woman power for many Tamils and many considered her as the iron lady. MPs, MLAs and Ministers all fell at her feet. On many occasions, all 37 MPs in the Lok Sabha and 13 MPs in the Rajya Sabha did namaskaram or lay down flat to pay respects to their leader. On other occasions, her minister and party cadre would prostrate before her vehicle, her helicopter or in other public places. The successor chief minister, O Panneerselvam took his oath of office with Jayalalithaa’s photo on hand.

Rajya Sabha worked only 55 hours of the 112 in this session for under 50%, while Lok Sabha worked 115 hours as against a scheduled 114 hours – what a difference, and several Opposition parties seem to be happy about this – with a goal to directly block important legislation for the country. Treasury benches say that Congress came up with “manufactured lame excuses” to disrupt Parliament, day after day.
